NEXT, the Invitational Exhibition of Emerging Art, held alongside Art Chicago, presents Spain's top emerging galleries in Spain on the Edge, an exhibition designed to showcase the best in contemporary Spanish art. Perfectly suited to NEXT’s profile as an art fair focused on bringing new international talent to Chicago, this site-specific video installation, curated by Nacho Ruiz, showcases the richness of a narrative that is in continuous flux and renewal. By interpreting interior conflicts, it demonstrates the crisis that exists within today’s narrative models.
Featuring work by Antoni Muntadas, Democracia, Mira Bernabeu, Xoan Anleo, Avelino Sala, John Mikel Euba, Ana Laura Aláez, Suso Fandiño, Macías, Suso 33, Javier Núñez Gasco, Germán Gómez, José María Mellado, and Ángeles Agrela, Spain on the Edge—Limits of a Narrative Conflict presents the diverse, powerful, and profound perspectives of a generation of artists whose most natural form of self-expression is the visual image, and whose most personal form of narrative is video.
More than an art fair, NEXT is a showcase for the world’s talent and an adventure in cutting-edge culture. It is an opportunity to redefine the relationship between art and the public, a portal to seeing contemporary art in new, innovative and eye-opening ways. NEXT is dedicated to the exhibition and advancement of today’s art and to nurturing in Chicago an atmosphere of ideas, exchange and experimentation.
