Three exhibitions inspired by time and thought premire at the Las Cruces Museum of Art Friday, June 6. A joint opening reception will be part of the First Friday Ramble from 5-7 p.m. All three exhibitions run through Saturday, August 16 in the Main Gallery.
Susan Murrell exhibits large-scale installations in a show titled Hour after Hour of Thought and Analysis. Her work is inspired by natural forms and scientific textbooks, exploring the known and unknown in the sciences, and is created with a wide variety of media, including watercolor, polymer clay, found objects, and shadow boxes. Murrell is a Las Cruces native who has exhibited nationally.
Numinous Space; Towards an Architecture of Contemplation is an exhibition of work by artist William Helm. In this show, Helm explores sacred space and the Chihuahuan Desert, in a contemplative investigation of the desert landscape reminiscent of a monastic cloister. The exhibition is composed of a digital film projection, scale models, and architectural drawings for theoretical structures.
Also opening is Dana Kroos and Laura Scandrett; The Architecture of Time. Dana Kroos presents stoneware sculpture juxtaposed against large charcoal drawing by Laura Scandrett. Together their works explore the passage of time and how it is recorded on the landscape and human figure.
All exhibits and receptions at the Museum, located at 491 N. Main St. in the downtown mall, are accessible and free to the public. For more information about exhibits and Studio Programs art classes call 575-541-2137 or visit the website http://museums.las-cruces.org
