"A Collection of Oil Paintings" by Cynthia Guzevich-Sommers will be featured at the Branigan Cultural Center in Las Cruces. This solo exhibition will open with a reception for the artist on Friday, Oct. 5 from 5 - 7 p.m. and will remain on display through Saturday, Oct. 27.
Cynthia Guzevich-Sommers, a native of Germany, attended the Academy of Arts in Munich, Germany. She has worked with art notables Helen van Wyk, Ken Gore, Ramon Froman, Frank Gervasi, Lois Krupp and Paul Strisik. Guzevich-Sommers has had 16 prior solo exhibitions, ranging from the Overseas Press Club and the Grand National Exhibition Show, both in New York, to Best in Show at Albuquerque, and the Capitol Building Show in Santa Fe. Her work has been featured in galleries across the United States.
Primarily a still life painter, Guzevich-Sommers works almost exclusively in oils. She has taken the still life subjects from the studio with fabric draped backgrounds to the outdoors by placing still life compositions in more traditional landscape settings. Her works feature strong clean color and fine details. In addition to her paintings, she has been a Grumbacher Company Demonstrator and teacher and has often been called upon to judge shows.
The Branigan Cultural Center is located at the north end of the downtown mall. Parking is accessible from the intersection of Water and Hadley streets. There is no charge, and the Cultural Center is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Cultural Center is handicapped accessible.
