Performance Riverside announces open call auditions for professional non-union performers for the upcoming production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific. The production is directed and choreographed by Roger Castellano and musically directed by Scott T. Smith. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, August 12 at 6:30pm, with callbacks Wednesday, August 13 at 6:30pm at Landis Performing Arts Center on the campus of Riverside City College. Performance pay is available.

Please prepare a song (16 bars) that shows your voice and personality. Have another contrasting song prepared in the event one is requested. An accompanist will be provided. Wear clothes appropriate for moving and dancing. All persons who audition must bring a resume, headshot, and a biography with them. Weeknight and weekend rehearsals begin August 23. Performances are September 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28 at Landis Performing Arts Center. Come prepared to list any conflicts you have with the rehearsal schedule.
The production features award-winning Inland Empire actor/director John LaLonde, last seen at Performance Riverside as Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha, in the role of French planter Emile De Beque...all other roles are open. Casting for the parts of:

Nellie Forbush (Legit mezzo, low A to C, dance, 25-30) - A spunky young nurse from Arkansas. Tomboyish, optimistic.

Lt. Joseph Cable (Tenor E to high G, 25-29) - An extremely handsome and intelligent officer with a bright future in the US Navy.

Luther Billis (Baritone, comic role) A loveable character who provides his fellow marines with much-needed comic relief. Does not respect authority. Enterprising, stubborn. Adores Nellie.

Bloody Mary (Haunting Mezzo, low G to high F, comedic) - Shrewd Polynesian merchant who makes a fortune off the sailors. Mother of Liat.

Liat (Non-singing, age 16-20) - A beautiful Polynesian girl who steals the heart of Joe Cable. Bloody Mary's daughter.

Ngana & Jerome (Ages 6-12) Emile's children, sing and speak French.

Henry - Emile's De Beque’s servant, speaks French.

Capt. George Bracket - Commanding officer on the island. Slightly pompous but not without a soft side.

Cmdr. William Harbison - Bracket's right hand man. Can be hot-headed, especially when Billis is involved.

Other Speaking roles: "Stewpot" George Watts, Professor, Lt. Buzz Adams, Yeoman Herbert Quale, Radio Operator Bob McCaffrey.

ENSEMBLE - Male and female singing/dancing ensemble consisting of Islanders, Military Personnel and Military Nurses.
