In response to recent incidents in Brazoria County, the Alvin Community College Criminal Justice Department will host a Texas Association of Hostage Negotiators (TAHN) course is Crisis Negotiation for law enforcement officers on April 23. The 8-hour program, which is free to TAHN members and $40 for non-members, is targeted toward first responders to provide skills in handling “incidents involving barricaded suspects and attempted suicides in progress.” According to TAHN, the main focus of the course will be: communication during initial contact with suspects, safety at the scene, intelligence gathering, understanding suicide, crowd control and third party issues. Created in 1989, TAHN is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing statewide training for first responders and hostage negotiators. To register, call (281) 756-3781.
