Onam Festival celebration at Dakshinachitra. During the festival DakshinaChitra will offer bright spectacle of Kerala gaiety with colorful pookolam, devotional music, thoranams and beautiful lamp to greet visitors at the centre. A group of traditional performers from Kerala will perform the vibrant arts forms like Poothan Thira , Mangalam Kali and Kinnam Kali Poothan Thira: This is a common ritualistic dance in the Bhadrakaali temples of the erstwhile Walluvanad taluk The character of Poothan (Bhoothan) visits every house in the desom (the jurisdiction of the Bhadrakaali temple) and plays and blesses the houses. On the last day Thira, representing the deity, visits and blesses the devotees. Mangalam Kali & Kinnam Kali: This art form is prevalent among the Mavila-Vettuva tribes. The dance is performed before the Senior members of the community. A group of about thirty people form a circle and dance and sing to the music. Thudi is used for music. Jack wood is used for making Thudi. The rhythm variation in Thudi while switching from one song to another is very catchy. To add flavour to the ongoing celebrations of Onam festival DakshinaChitras restaurant `Kanali will serve Malayalee delicacies. A special sale of Kerala crafts and textiles will be on at the centre.
