On October 17th-18th, the Carey Family will celebrate one the world’s most traditional horse races: Oktoberfest. The legendary festival originated as a horse race honoring the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese in Munich, Germany in 1810. While the races have long since been replaced by beer carts and a carnival-like atmosphere in Munich, Hawthorne, commemorating their own anniversary, promises a full version of the original celebration featuring live music, an outdoor barbecue and beer fest, endless sauerkraut and sausage, and no shortage of live racing.
Festivities will begin at noon each day, followed by a 1:20 post time with live racing and celebrations ending at approximately 6:00 p.m.
