This is an 8 week class open to all skill levels and will be taught using
oil paint. The class is designed to help beginning painters build a strong
foundation, while assisting more experienced painters to hone and expand their skills.
We will learn drawing methods to build strong foundations for our paintings, explore tonal values with a limited palette, and evaluate the properties of light and color using a full-color palette. We will primarily work from still-lifes, painting wet into wet (alla prima), so you will be finishing a painting each meeting. The aim of the class is to help us create realistic-looking paintings by learning to see more abstractly, whether we paint from life, photos, or our imagination.
This class will have limited enrollment to allow each student plenty of
one-on-one time with the instructor (enroll early). Most classes will begin
with a quick demo to get us started. Early arrival is recommended since set up can take some time, and we will want as much time to paint as possible.
Saturday Mornings, April 17th to June 12th
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
