We — Rabbi Judith Hauptman and Student Cantor Ben Rosner — are launching a new minyan on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Starting Friday night February 16, and then meeting once a month after that, we will run a Kabbalat Shabbat service. It is the shortest service of Shabbat, taking place on Friday night, after dark. It welcomes the Shabbat by singing seven Psalms and assorted other prayers, and ends with kiddush over wine. It takes about one hour. Part of it will be singing, part schmoozing with others, and part praying silently. No need to read Hebrew. We will have transliterations for all, in addition to Hebrew. We hope to make the service musical and meaningful and beautiful and intelligent. And traditional and egalitarian.

When it is over, we will eat a light, dairy meal and then sing some Sabbath songs. You are welcome to show up just for the service or for the service and also the meal (free!)

Since we have no idea of how many people to expect or how much food to buy, if you think you would like to be there that night, let us know by dropping us an email on our website. But feel free to show up with — or without — informing us in advance. We want to include you.
