Oh My Rockness & The Oya Festival CMJ Showcase:
We Are Wolves, Ida Maria, Monomen, Team Robespierre, Golden City
We Are Wolves
Around 2000, Alexander Ortiz and Vincent Levesque, both from the visual art world along with fellow Antonin Marquis formed a band with synths, bass, vocals and drums. In their own words the band likes to qualify their sound as “a post-punk landscape with analogue trees. Like rock after the postmodern explosion”. Nameless until 2002, it’s when Alexander showed up at the jam space with an home made shirt with a skull spiting a synth with the inscription « We Are Wolves » on it that they decided to name the band. The Wolves were born.
Ida Maria
With Indie Pop said to be on the rise in the UK music’s scene, there could not be a more opportune time for Ida Maria. Mixing a dash of a Gallaghar’s gob, a sprinkling of Winehouse’s recklessness, a splash of Bjork’s pixie like chic with a large serving of Chrissie Hynde’s musical sensibility, a sizeable slice of her hero Iggy Pop’s live performance style, and not to mention a bucket load of infectious material, Ida Maria has all the ingredients necessary to make it Big.
