Dance Delivered in 14 Days!
AN AUDIENCE FAVORITE! Three artists come together for House Special, the culmination of of two weeks of full tilt dance making.
Paco Gomes' Modern/Afro-Brazilian fusion, Kelly Kemp's edgy and physical work and Pearl Marill's funny and awkward movement explorations make this an evening of exciting dance and intimate discussions!
ODC Theater Director Rob Bailis says: "This is one of the most exciting and beloved shows we present every year. It is pure opportunity and pure risk for artists and audiences alike. We put on stage whatever exists after the two-week creation period afforded to each of the three selected choreographers. The challenge here is not to do what you know how to do, or even what you expect you would do well. Instead the idea is to abandon the formality of finished work, and to get at something more immediate in hopes that it will also be that much more essential."
kelly kemp & company will be working with the idea of Imaginary Friends, considering the methods people use to identify themselves in relationship to larger social circles as well as the means by which persons attempt to edit or filter themselves from their own lives.
Pearl Marill will be exploring the idea of what we are actually thinking and feeling vs. how we act, the vast disparity between the two, and the inevitable comedy that arises when the two are juxtaposed.
Paco Gomes will present a work-in-progress called Niu Aye (the center of the Earth). His focus will be on religious legends and the problems resulting in the oral transmission of such legends as they are passed down through generations.
Both evenings of House Special are followed by a post-performance discussion/Q&A with the choreographers.
