Class Descriptions

Monday
SALSA (ON 1)
Drop-ins welcome
The Salsa (on 1) series is designed to create a common language for the new and returning salsa dancer. The style taught is LA and New York based.

Beginner (Mondays 6 pm) -- NOW FREE
It starts with the “basic step”, lower body movement, turns and the cross body lead. After that a few more fundamentals are covered. Intended to be taken 4 to 8 times (depending on experience).

Beg/Intermediate (Mondays 7 pm)
Learn Rhythm, Upper body movement, footwork, progressive moves with the cross body lead, wraps, whips, right turns with style, left turns with style, Chaînés, cross body leads with turns, the copa (in and out), CBL 360, back spot turn and other foundational moves. Intended to be taken 18 to 30 times (depending on experience).

Intermediate (Mondays 8 pm)
Learn more styling, footwork and intricate move sequences. In this class we will take the foundational moves of the beginning/intermediate class and add even more complexity and style. To be taken as long as you wish.

Tuesday
SALSA CUBANA
Drop-ins welcome
On Tuesdays we will study the roots of the current Cuban style of salsa. Forms of Casino, Guaguanco, Son and Rueda will be covered. We will also dance to the sound of Timba music (the new salsa sound from Cuba).

Beginner (Tuesdays 6 pm)
In this class we will cover the foundation of Casino style dancing with moves such as guapea, dile que no, enchufla and vacila. We will use Rueda to practice these moves. After a solid understanding of those 4 moves you will be encouraged to attend the next level. Intended to be taken 4 to 8 times (depending on experience).

Beg/Intermediate (Tuesdays 7 pm)
In this class we will always warm up with beginning moves of some of the roots of the current Cuban style like, Guaguanco or Son. After that we will take our Casino to the next level by expanding on the foundation learned in the beginning class. We will also do some Rueda (Casino style in a group). Intended to be taken 18 to 30 times (depending on experience).

Intermediate (Tuesdays 8 pm)
We will come back to the technique of the foundational moves as we learn challenging arm wraps and fun style. We will also embark on the study of some of the more traditional folkloric Cuban dances such as Son and Guaguanco. If the numbers balance out we will learn true group moves for Rueda de Casino. To be taken as long as you wish.

Wednesday
BACHATA
Drop-ins welcome
Beginning to Intermediate (Wednesdays at 6 pm)
Each week we will review basic Bachata body movement and then cover a fun social dance move.

10 week On 1 Training Class - Next Training Teaser is in December
NO DROP-INS

The 10 week training class is for people who want to take their salsa to the “next level”. It is a 3 hour class with emphasis on technique, strength and style. Spin technique with style and how to lead spins will be covered. It is recommended that you have at least a year experience with salsa before taking this class.

Originally from Los Angeles, BB of Salsa Reno has been dancing Salsa for over 15 years and teaching since 2002. He regularly studies salsa with top salsa dance instructors from around the world. His current salsa teachers are John and Liz of Salsamania in Oakland, CA, ranked sixth in the world and he is endorsed to teach Bachata by Rodney “Rodchata” Aquino, the most respected Bachata instructor in the Bay area. Recently BB of Salsa Reno was honored by Salsagang.com for his outstanding contributions to the salsa industry in the Reno/Truckee area and he was named “best salsa instructor in town” by Reno Magazine in January 2009. He teaches a comprehensive salsa dance program at the Gemini Ballroom in Reno.

Salsa Reno is Reno's best Latin dance program. Students will have the opportunity to dance salsa at various locales in and around Reno to help bring what you learn in the studio out into the "real world" of salsa. BB of Salsa Reno is the host and resident instructor for Tropical Thursdays at The Agave Mexican Restaurant, the Mesa Luna Party at The Edge Nightspot at The Peppermill Hotel/Casino Resort and Salsa Sundays at Aura inside the Silver Legacy Resort and Casino. BB of Salsa Reno is legendarily known for the best Salsa dance parties in the Reno area. Past events include Baila en la Playa at The Beach at the Grand Sierra Resort, Cafe Tabu, Hot Salsa Fridays at UNR and Latin Thursdays at Nikki Beach's Pearl Champagne Lounge. Currently BB's studio classes have almost 200 students and his parties usually have anywhere from 100-700 people. He feels confident you’re learning a dance with a strong following that’s embraced by anyone that has heard about this exotic blend of Afro-Cuban-Caribbean music that is globally recognized as “Salsa.”
