The upscale bar and lounge, Prohibition, is switching things up for anyone that is looking for a different and unique New Year’s Eve experience. Prohibition is the perfect option if you’re looking for something other than the usual club scene you find around New York City. Although they have all of the amenities you would expect on New Year’s Eve including a (4) hour open bar, champagne toast at Midnight, and passed hor d’oeuvres, they are breaking form the mold by providing Live Music rather than a DJ throughout the night. The Live Music will have you moving to a beat other than the standard fist pumping sound. The overall feel of Prohibition is something like you’ve never felt because of the combination of music, American fare, and cocktails that range from one of a kind signature drinks, to classic drinks found during the Prohibition era. Authenticity at its finest.
About the Venue
Prohibition, the upscale bar and lounge on the Upper West Side, brings true Prohibition era authenticity to the mainstream bar scene. When you step through the doors of prohibition you will hear the sound of Live Music like no other venue in the city, along with cocktails reminiscent of the 1920’s speakeasy days. While Prohibition stays true to its name when it comes to drinks and food, it still has a modern feel to it. The crowd ranges from all ages to all walks of life, making for an always unique and exciting experience. The décor is laid back and breathes an air of relaxation with a very hip, but not too hip atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for a drink with friends, or for date night.
Prohibition typifies the Upper West Side bar scene. It’s spacious and funky but not overly hip. It’s popular but rarely packed. The waitstaff is young, beautiful and unpretentious. The cool décor features lamps made out of out of skinny lightbulbs suspended in wine bottles. In the front bar area, live bands perform on a tiny stage: Every night features a different musical act, from groovy funk to jazz. If you’d rather focus on your date (or your martini—try one of the many house-made varieties), head to the back room, where you can also dine on surprisingly good New American cuisine.
