In this event, we'll start by shedding light on résumés from a hirer's point of view, and give you a chance to observe your résumé's performance under battlefield conditions. The fast-paced second half of the event will allow you to find out if your résumé is representing you accurately.

Part I: Discussion

NYC UXPA President Gloria Petron talks with Ben Tregoing of TDA-Digital, North America, on the topic of digital portfolios. As co-founder and Director at TDA, Ben has spent the past five years advising businesses ranging from startups to financial institutions on how to structure and integrate their user experience teams. In addition, Ben was an active member of the London UXPA community, organizing yearly career events which included running booths and workshops for résumé and portfolio reviews.

Part II: Speed Dating For Your Résumé

What is it and how does it work?

A series of 2-person stations are set up around the room to form a circuit. A reviewer (a senior-level UX-industry professional or UX-industry recruiter) is seated at each station. Participants sit with the reviewer and hand over their resume plus whatever work samples they've brought, and in the few minutes allowed, the reviewer provides their assessment. Feedback is brief and high-level. At the end of the session it's time for the participant to move on.

Work samples may include wireframes, documentation, screenshots, etc. Samples can be presented on paper or via laptops or tablets. This will make it possible for reviewers to get a much clearer picture of participants' capabilities in the time allowed.
