NWYT Presents "Let Us Rise In Love.” March 20, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Not What You Think (NWYT), an a cappella ensemble affiliated with the Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington, D.C. (LGCW), will offer “Let Us Rise In Love,” a concert of music and dance on Saturday, March 20th, 2010, 4-6 PM, at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW), 545 7th Street SE. In addition to selections from NWYT’s repertoire of songs of social justice and humor, the concert features 3 dance selections: “Braiding 2009,” “Rain 2010,” and “Arabesque 2010” by award-winning choreographer and NWYT member Alvin Mayes. Dancers performing in the program include: Miriam Levitan Cramer, Ella Nathlie Lane, Jill Cramer Lane, Aaron Jackson, Julia Smith, and Tommy Parlon. Admission is $10 at the door and includes light hors d’oeuvres. The concert is part of Winter City Weekends sponsored by Barracks Row Main Street. NWYT’s most recent CD, “Never Give Up,” compiles popular selections from NWYT’s repertoire, including music by Dr. Ysaye Maria Barnwell, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, James Taylor, Holly Near, and Don McLean and several traditional South African songs. “Helmet” composed by Gunnar Madsen and Richard Greene is also featured. Founded 19 years ago, NWYT members share a belief that as lesbians and gay men singing together, both an opportunity and responsibility exist to effect change and open hearts and minds.
NWYT performs throughout the DC metropolitan community and has performed at concerts of the Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington, DC, at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at Maryland, and with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington in “Let Us Entertain You.” In the last couple of years, NWYT has been a frequent guest at dance concerts at Dance Place.
