Notes for Noah Fundraiser in Woodridge October 10, 2009

Please join us on Saturday, October 10 at 5pm.
We will be hosting a very special event, "Notes for Noah," to benefit Noah VanHoutan who is a 5 year old boy battling Batten Disease.

The fundraiser will take place at Shanahan's located on the corner of 75th Street and Woodward Avenue in Woodridge. Doors will open at 5pm and the event will go to 10 pm. There is a $15 cover at the door. Everyone will receive a "www.NoahsHope.com" bracelet to support Noah and Batten Disease and a ticket to win one of many door prizes! Light appetizers will be served.

"Notes for Noah" is a karaoke fundraiser in which patrons will pay $1, or any denomination, to sing or to have someone else sing. The selected person must sing, or may pay the initial bid to back out of singing. In addition, we will be selling "Get of out Singing Free" cards for $20 which will entitle the bearer of the card to get of out singing for the entire night. We will also be raffling off several prizes donated by local businesses in the community. 100% of the proceeds raised from the event, including the entrance fee, will go to a foundation set up in Noah's name to assist the family and to aid in medical research for this disease.

Batten Disease is a cruel and rare childhood disorder for which there is currently no cure. Over time, children affected by Batten disease/LINCL suffer from epilepsy, become unable to communicate, become mentally impaired and lose their sight and motor skills. Eventually they become bedridden, tube fed, and suffer from dementia. At this point in time, Batten/LINCL is always fatal and ends in death usually between the ages of 8 and 12.

Noah has gradually lost most of his speech, his ability to feed himself, and his ability to walk unassisted. As you can imagine, it is devastating to watch any child lose skills and not be able to do anything about it.

Our hope is to not only raise money for the foundation, but to also bring awareness to this disease in hopes of finding a cure for Noah and other children suffering from this disease.
