North Riverside, IL – Classic Cinemas’ North Riverside Mall Theatre is pleased to announce their showcase of Forest Park artist Elaine Luther that will be held on display throughout the month of September. As a former Educator, and with over 20 years of experience in metal-works and jewelry making, Luther’s unique stylistic exploration of the labor and lives of women will be shown in the North Riverside Mall Theatre’s Lobby, located at 7501 West Cermak Road.
Elaine has been prominently featured in a multitude of art displays around the Chicago area, and even around the country, with notable pieces displayed in New Orleans and LA that attempt to convey a powerful message. “These paintings are about domesticity, a women’s sphere, and motherhood. They’re also about body image, body size, and ‘measuring up,’’’ says Luther. She claims, “By elevating and monumentalizing these womanly aspects, I’m trying to get you to look at them in a new way.”
The pieces featured in the North Riverside Mall Theatre during the month of September will be mostly mixed-media style compositions, each one having been handcrafted with found and collected materials throughout Elaine Luther’s life. “I find meaning, solace, and remembrance in the ordinary things that are left behind,” she emphasizes. Luther collects fragments of women’s lives – hand typed recipe cards, leftover quilt squares, and one of her favorites, index cards with sewing technique samples and instructions. “I collected these items years before I started painting. They just appealed to me,” she explains.
When asked how it feels to be featured at North Riverside Mall Theatre, Luther exclaims, “I’m excited to be showcased at my neighborhood theatre. My family and I have been regulars for years!” She adds, “I’m also thrilled to have my work seen in a non-traditional setting. Why not add some art to your movie night?”
Alongside her endeavors as an artist and a jewelry maker, Luther works diligently as a blogger helping to educate her audience on technique and trends that are emerging in the art world, news, and upcoming projects. Currently, Luther has a piece on display at Modular 22 at Studio 22 in Berwyn, IL.
