No Graven Images? No Art? A Series on Jewish Art November 4, 2006

Does the Second Commandment forbidding graven images forbid art? Depending on the time and place in history, various interpretations of the Second Commandment, as well as attitudes toward figural imagery, have affected the making of art. This workshop series investigates these attitudes, taking us from the biblical period to modern times, when Jewish artists react to their Jewish identity in various ways.
