Although they are ten years apart in age, Fernando (born 1978) and Gerardo Montiel Klint (born 1968) share a common interest in the contemporary art practice of staged photography. Working in the traditions of artists like Cindy Sherman, Gregory Crewdson, and many others internationally, the Montiel Klint brothers construct and photograph provocative scenarios, often with themselves as performers. In Gerardo's photographs, figures are usually shown in places of solitude, both indoors and outdoors. By contrast, Fernando's imagery consists of anxiety-ridden people who appear claustrophobic in cluttered environments.
