Bringing Youth and Art Together:
Paint Outside the Box Day and First Fridays at CenterStage!
On Friday, August 6, Art 180 and the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Richmond will bring 80 students to Richmond CenterStage to paint five construction debris recycling containers donated by Ace Recycling. Promoting public art and the importance of recycling, these children will be painting on the 600 block of E. Broad Street (behind Richmond CenterStage) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and would love for you to come out and see their artwork! That evening, as part of the First Fridays Artwalk, CenterStage will offer a celebration for the public to join in the fun from 5-7 p.m. with live entertainment from the No BS! Brass Band and free refreshments.
The young people will be working with five local artists who are helping them develop themes for the murals on each of the dumpsters. The artists are Sukenya Best, Rick Cassidy, Robert Cataldo, Hamilton Glass, and Jaffray Witherow. Once completed, the containers will be “mobile murals” that will join the Ace Recycling fleet, gracing sites around the state and sharing the message of conservation and enriching the lives of youth through the arts.
Mention Art 180 next door at the Hilton Garden Inn for complimentary valet parking.
