Nightmare on Navajo Street!

Denver, CO - It’s tricks and treats for music and classic horror movie lovers down at The Bug Theatre Friday and Saturday nights throughout October. Nightmare on Navajo Street features eight of Denver’s most original local bands/musicians and nine creepy classic (or soon-to-be classic) movies (yes, there is a double feature on Oct. 12th!).

Said Nightmare of Navajo Street Program Director Jeremy Atkins: “We wanted to do something similar to the Film on the Rocks series produced by the Denver FIlm Society, but we wanted to do it 'Bug-style' with Denver bands and unique horror movies. We're really excited to include two locally produced horror movies, Red Raccoon from Monkey Angel Studios and Atom the Amazing Zombie Killer by Bizjack Felco Studios."

Red Raccoon (2011), directed by Max and Chad Smith, is part art film and part horror movie with a big dose of dark comedy. Red Raccoon uses "found footage" of a woman dressed as a furry entertainer as she navigates increasingly bizarre situations while trying to escape the nightmarish secret of a mountain sex resort. It plays as part of a double feature October 12th withThe Toxic Avenger (1984) and music from Extreme Turbo Smash.

Atom the Amazing Zombie Killer (2012), directed by Richard Taylor and Zack Beins, is a story about a guy with girl trouble. He's also the the best bowler in his league and an amazing zombie killer. Plays October 20th with musical guest The A-OK's.

The Nightmare on Navajo Street series kicks off on October 5th with one of Denver’s most unique musical acts, Total Ghost, the ‘fake’ German synth pop musical sensation, and Amityville Horror (1979). October 6th welcomes in an acoustic set from Heads Without Dogs (featuring Evan Schmidt) and the Vincent Price classic, The House on Haunted Hill (1958). Other pairings include Taletha (Gothic Belly Dance) with The Psybrid with Nosferatu (1923) on October 13th; Faded Freakshowwith indie-cult classic Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1984) on October 19th; No Good Reason with Return of the Living Dead (1985) on October 26th; and Toothgnasher with Child's Play (1988) on October 27th.

“Sure you can sit home and watch these movies but it's not the same as being in a theater with the smell of fresh popped popcorn, live music, and great local brew,” added Atkins.

Doors open at 7:30. Music starts at 8:00 and movies start at 9:00. Tickets are $7. Nightmare on Navajo Street is produced by the Bug Theater, Eternal Evolution Productions, and Evil Poodle Productions. The Bug is sponsored in part by the SCFP and Breckenridge Brewery.
