New York City and Action Sports
Extreme sports like skateboarding and BMX (Bicycle Moto-cross) have become increasingly popular in New York. The cultural impact that New York has had on—and borrowed from—action sports will be discussed during the presentation of Stoked: The Evolution of Action Sports (Empire, 2006), a new photography book. The talk will be moderated by the book’s co-authors, Claudia Lebenthal and Daniel Stark, who will be joined by some of their noted contributors: Buzz Bissinger, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream (Da Capo Press, 2003), Missy Giove, four-time Downhill Mountain Bike world champion, and others.
