7th Annual
New Years Eve Downtown
2006
The long range weather forecast is for a mild winter in the Edmonton Capital Region.
Plan now to celebrate the 7th annual New Year’s Eve outdoors in the heart of Edmonton. Sir Winston Churchill Square and the surrounding civic precinct will once again be the site for the New Year’s Eve Downtown Festival. The event is non-alcoholic, free and designed for the whole family.
The outdoor activities include a skating party in front of Edmonton City Hall and snow ball throwing challenge. If you don’t skate you can join in a street dance with a DJ, near the bonfire, on Sir Winston Churchill Square. 102 A Avenue will feature a number of concessions serving coffee, hot chocolate, mini-donuts and other festive treats. The Second Cup, The Three Bananas and L’Espresso Organic Cafe will be open to serve an assortment of specialty beverages and pastries.
Indoors at the Stanley A. Milner Library and Edmonton City Hall there will be a full line-up of entertainment and family crafts. The CBC – Radio Canada Interactive Space at Edmonton City Centre will feature some great young Edmonton entertainers. New this is year is mask making at the Interpretive Centre on Sir Winston Churchill Square. The activities at Edmonton City Hall start at 7:30 pm and the other venues start at 9:00 pm.
The evening’s celebrations will be capped of by pyrotechnics at mid-night. The excitement starts at 10 seconds to mid-night. You need to be on Sir Winston Churchill Square to enjoy show as 99th Street is the firing zone for the pyrotechnics.
Parking is $1.00 at The Stanley A Milner Library Parkade, Edmonton City Hall Parkade, Edmonton City Centre West Parkade and Canada Place Parkade. Edmonton Transit provides free service downtown between 6:00 pm and 3:00 am.
Come downtown. Bring in the new year on Sir Winston Churchill Square with thousands of fellow Edmontonians.
