Since 1972, the Arboretum has been actively involved in breeding, selecting, and introducing new trees for landscape use. Faced with new challenges from threatening pests, diseases, climate changes and monocultural planting practice, the tree introduction program at the Arboretum works to develop and introduce superior woody plants that are uniquely suited to urban conditions throughout the upper Midwest and across the country.
