The History Center partners with the Science Museum of Virginia to offer this adventurous tour of historic Lock Island. Participants will learn about the first dam across the James River; the earliest canal of the James River & Kanawha Canals dating to 1785; and the mid-19th century foundry and shot tower. Also included is an exterior tour of the Neutra-designed home of Ambassador and Mrs. Walter Rice. Participants will be required to descend and ascend a steep set of steps built into the side of the hill and will receive information prior to the tour regarding attire, directions and parking. $30.
