Corpus Christi, TX: K Space Contemporary is pleased to announce the opening of Latex Suites & Gardens: Memory and consciousness featuring new paintings by Brownsville artist Cande Aguilar. The exhibition opens with the First Friday ArtWalk on May 6th from 5:30 to 9 pm.
Born and living in Brownsville, Cande Aguilar, Jr. is an exceptional contributor to the Rio Grande Valley art scene. While standing on stable ground or on an ‘A’ framed ladder, Cande uses random subjects to create cohesion in a defined space. He extracts from anything around him, including history, in order to tell his story in the form of abstract representation. Light-hearted joy, bright colors, and sensitivity permeates his work; such that, a recent exhibition is a direct contradiction to the issues relating to the ongoing border violence in South Texas.
Latex Suites & Gardens: Memory and Consciousness is sponsored in part by: Grande Communications, Fox KUQI Television, House of Rock, Republic National Distributing Company.
Additional Exhibitions opening on May 6th at K Space Contemporary:
Art Star Gallery (gift shop): New Work by David Phillips
David Phillips is a local artist currently working towards a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Texas A & M University Corpus Christi. He has been the feature artist of ArtWalk for the 2010-2011 season, donating one painting per month to be given away to a lucky ArtWalker. Of his abstract paintings, Phillips states: “It is not the romantic notion of recreating another artist’s style but the challenge of defining my own person, which allows me to take risk . . . what I seek I find in tangible aesthetics – both physical and emotional – especially from close friends and colleagues. This point-of-view allows me to find comfort, as well as inspiration, in all of nature’s perfections and mistakes, human or otherwise.”
