New Orleans Bound 1812: the Steamboat That Changed America June 21, 2012

As Louisiana celebrates its bicentennial, the Louisiana State Museum and the River Heritage Foundation present an exhibition celebrating 200 years of commerce on the Mississippi River and its tributaries: The exhibition traces the voyage of the New Orleans, the first steam-powered vessel to navigate the Mississippi River, and its lasting impact on the nation's economy, culture and society. It features a scale model of the New Orleans and photographs, paintings, historic documents and artifacts from 19th century steamboats.
