Las Cruces, NM – The New Mexico Centennial Quilt Project will be the subject of a February 26 presentation at the Branigan Cultural Center.
“It all started two years ago when we went around the state looking for textiles that were here 100 years ago in preparation for the [state] centennial,” said Colleen Konetzni, of Rio Rancho, NM, one of two project grant administrators. “Through the project we met the most interesting people and learned the stories their quilts had to tell.”
Konetzni and fellow grant administrator Donna Barnitz’s presentation will explore what the pair discovered in their journeys to “all four corners” of the state.
The quilt project is sponsored by the New Mexico Humanities Council and the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta.
The Centennial Quilt Project presentation coincides with the annual Las Colcheras Quilt Guild juried exhibition at the Branigan Cultural Center, on view through February 26. The project presentation will take place at 10am on February 26.
The Branigan Cultural Center is located at the north end of the Downtown Mall in Las Cruces at 501 North Main Street. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. Admission is free. For more information on exhibitions and programs, contact the Branigan Cultural Center by telephone at (575) 541-2154 or visit las-cruces.org/museums.
