'New Kid' is the story of a young boy named Nick who leaves the fictitious country of Homeland and comes to America with his parents. He feels isolated and confused by the language and customs of his new land. This feeling is dramatized by the theatrical device of having the Americans speak gibberish and the Homelanders speak English. Through this linguistic trick the audience identifies with Nick and his mother, and shares their sense of frustration at being unable to communicate in their new world. Using humor and sensitivity, 'New Kid' deals realistically with situations where people hold prejudices against people who are "different."
