A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, creates a family holiday tradition with its production of CHARLES DICKENS’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL, the ultimate tale of forgiveness, opening Saturday, December 8 and closing Sunday, December 23, 2012 (previews begin Saturday, December 1). ANW Producing Artistic Directors Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott co-direct the timeless masterpiece about the redemptive and transformative power of love with a new adaptation by GEOFF ELLIOTT that uses Dickens’ remarkable words exclusively as well as evocative original music by composer Ego Plum. The run includes a "Pay What You Can” date on Thursday, December 6 and a special fundraiser performance, titled “Fezziwig’s Festive Holiday Tea,” which benefits ANW’s education outreach programs, on December 16, at noon.
The 20-member cast features Geoff Elliott (Scrooge), Robertson Dean (Narrator), Stephen Rockwell (Mr. Cratchit/Ensemble), Rafael Goldstein (Fred/Young Scrooge/Ensemble), Jill Hill (Mrs. Cratchit/Ensemble), Mitchell Edmonds (Marley/Old Joe/Ensemble), Deborah Strang (Ghost of Christmas’ Past/Charwoman/Ensemble), Alan Blumenfeld (Ghost of Christmas Present/Benevolent Gentleman/Ensemble), Alison Elliott (Belle/Laundress/Ensemble), Diana Gonzalez-Morett (Martha Cratchit/Ensemble), Brendan Haley (Peter Cratchit/Ensemble), Georgia Miller (Belinda Cratchit/Ensemble), Jack Elliott (Cratchit Twin/Turkey Boy/Ensemble), Dámaso J. Rodriguez (Tiny Tim/Ensemble), Marie Sullivan (Cratchit Twin/Ensemble), Jennifer Propper (Ensemble), Megan Farber (Ensemble), Abigail Marks (Ensemble), Kevin Angulo (Ensemble) and James Ferrero (Ensemble).
"Our new presentation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol promises to be a supremely theatrical journey, celebrating the transformative power of forgiveness,” says Elliott. Rodriguez-Elliott adds, “Ebenezer Scrooge's rebirth from miserly curmudgeon to the epitome of love and generosity affirms our faith in the potent goodness of human kind."
A Noise Within, led by Producing Artistic Directors Geoff Elliott and Julia Rodriguez-Elliott, is the only year-round classical repertory company in Southern California and one of only a handful in the entire country dedicated solely to producing classical dramatic literature in the repertory tradition of rotating productions with a resident company of professional artists. It has been lauded by critics as a “premiere classical theatre company,” and an "outstanding ensemble" whose "vibrantly theatrical" "brilliant productions" are "freshly imagined," "exceptional," "invigorating," "riveting," "brilliantly atmospheric," “inspired,” and “masterfully crafted.” Founded 21 years ago, ANW quickly established itself as one of the region’s key theatre companies, attracting fiercely loyal audiences and consistently high praise from the media for its productions and as a key force in arts education. The company has presented more than 140 plays from the classics of world literature, each season producing works from authors ranging from Shakespeare and Molière to Ibsen, O’Neill and Shaw to Miller and Williams. A Noise Within completed its milestone 2011-12 Season and 20th Anniversary in its permanent new home, a 33,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art venue in Pasadena, in May 2012.
A Noise Within's production of Dickens' A Christmas Carol is generously sponsored in part by Wells Fargo. Media sponsors for ANW’s 2012-13 Season are Pasadena Star-News and KPCC 89.3 FM.
