Co-Presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles: New 35mm Print! 20th Anniversary! THE LONG DAY CLOSES, 1992, Film Desk, 85 min. An elegant hymn to memory and the transporting power of the movies, Terence Davies’ tale of young Bud, a lonely, isolated preteen in postwar Liverpool, was listed by Time Out London as one of the best British films ever made, and is a moving biographical work. Though doted upon by his mother and sisters, Bud is miserable at his new school, where menacing bullies make his life hell, and he retreats to the local movie house, letting the silvery images of the cinema bring him some solace. [35mm] Discussion following with director Terence Davies.
