In the grand tradition of musicians honoring their predecessors, The Triple Door is proud to host Nelson sings Nilsson, featuring Harvey Danger’s Sean Nelson singing the classics of late songwriter Harry Nilsson. Inspired by Nilsson’s own 1969 recording "Nillson sings Newman," in which Nillson showcases the work of then unknown songwriter Randy Newman, Sean collaborated with respected producer Steve Fisk to record "Nelson sings Nilsson."
The record includes 14 Nilsson songs--some hits, some deep cuts, some unreleased gems--plus an 8-minute medley (very much in the style of the Beatles pastiche from Harry's debut LP.) Elaborately arranged with strings, brass, guitar, bass, drums, and a kids choir, the album weaves a rich, theatrical musical tapestry to wrap around Nelson's full-throated vocal stylings. With influences ranging from rock to Vaudeville, from music hall to Broadway, from Tin Pan Alley to Erik Satie, "Nelson Sings Nilsson" offers an idiosyncratic showcase for one of the late-20th century's most idiosyncratic composer/arrangers.
After the success of the album, Sean began touring locally to sold-out crowds. Don’t miss a chance to see him perform Harry Nillson classics such as "Everybody’s Talking" and "Me and My Arrow" on the Triple Door Mainstage with a 27 piece rock band/orchestra!
