Scottish music with a heavy dose of Latin, Funk and Jazz
Neil Pearlman
Pianist Neil Pearlman is rapidly distinguishing himself as a uniquely innovative artist in the contemporary traditional
music scene and his newest project “Scottish Infusion” continues that trend. Drawing on a musical influences from Latin, Funk, Jazz, and other genres, the group infuses traditional Scottish melodies with new ideas without losing their essentially Scottish spirit.
At age 21, Neil Pearlman is already a recognized figure in Celtic and traditional music circles. Legendary Cape Breton Fiddler Jerry Holland said that “watching Neil’s hands on the piano is like watching two spiders on crack!” Doug Berns (bass), Javier Ramos (congas) and Alex Cohen (drums) are each established musicians in the New York City music scene, where they play in a wide variety of groups. This combination of backgrounds allows the group to fully and authentically explore the influences in Neil’s arrangements while maintaining a fundamentally Scottish feel.
