The Neighborhood Classics concert series, founded by pianist Simone Dinnerstein in 2009 in an effort to build relationships at a local level between neighborhoods and musicians, will hold its first performance at PS 142 on Manhattan’s lower east side, featuring the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME). Led by artistic director and cellist Clarice Jensen, ACME is dedicated to the outstanding performance of masterworks from the 20th and 21st centuries, primarily the work of American composers. Time Out New York calls them “one of New York’s brightest new music indie-bands.” The ensemble will present music associated with New York’s downtown new music scene by composers Philip Glass, Phil Kline, Nico Muhly, and Sarah Kirkland Snider. All ticket sales from this one-hour, family-friendly performance will benefit PS 142.
Tickets: $15 at www.neighborhoodclassics.com or at the door
