Negative Press Project - a seven-piece electro-acoustic jazz/indie-rock-inspired original music collective.
Co-directed by Andrew Lion and Ruthie Dineen, Negative Press Project (NPP) has been unveiling arrangements in performance that defy strict convention since 2012.
Based in Oakland, CA, Negative Press Project evolved over three years as the musical vision of bassist and co-leader, Andrew Lion (formerly of the electro pop group, OONA). NPP began as a one-off studio experiment engineered by Jon Evans (Tori Amos), supported by the inimitable Matthew Charles Heulitt (Narada Michael Walden, Zigaboo Modeliste, etc.), with Joel Behrman (Sheila E., The E Family featuring Pete Escovedo), pianist, Adam Shulman (Marcus Shelby Orchestra), and drummer, Rick Munoz (Pine & Battery). Andrew built on the foundation of that experience to bring in NPP's present day co-conspirators.
The group will be appearing at Subterranean Arthouse, an interdisciplinary community art space that offers diverse opportunities for local, national, and international artists to teach, create and present their art form.
Negative Press Project will be joined on the bill by Eli Goldlink's Flavor of the Month Club Band - We Hope You Enjoy the Show, an electric jazz quintet performing original love songs inspired by artists such as Steely Dan, Usher, Bob Marley, Mac Dre and the Beatles.
