Informal (and totally unofficial) get-together of NCDD members and their friends and colleagues in the Bay Area.
No specific agenda will be set. We'll talk about whatever people want to talk about. Possible topics:
* Current projects
* Report back from last year's conferences
* Upcoming NCDD conference in Austin, TX (October '08)
* The 2008 elections: opportunities for dialogue and deliberation?
As of January 12, the exact event details are still subject to change. So watch this place for updates. Thanks!
About NCDD
The “dialogue and deliberation community” is a loose-knit community of practitioners, researchers, activists, artists, students, and others who are committed to giving people a voice and making sure that voice counts. NCDD provides the infrastructure needed in this community so we can work together to increase both our individual and our collective impact.
NCDD has nearly 800 members, and we have held three biennial national conferences that brought together nearly 1,000 leaders and up-and-comers in the dialogue and deliberation community – in Alexandria, VA in 2002; Denver in 2004; and San Francisco in 2006. Our monthly email updates go out to over 10,000 people who work in dialogue and deliberation, and our website receives about 2,500 visitors daily (over 12,000 page views/day).
NCDD’s Mission, Vision and Values
NCDD’s mission is to bring together and support people, organizations, and resources in ways that expand the power of discussion to benefit society.
NCDD envisions a future in which all people–regardless of income, position, background or education–are able to engage regularly in lively, thoughtful, and challenging conversations about what really matters to them, in ways that have a positive impact on their lives and their world. We envision a society in which systems and structures support and advance inclusive, constructive dialogue and deliberation.
NCDD embraces and demonstrates the following values and principles: collaboration and active participation, openness and transparency, inclusivity, balance, curiosity and commitment to learning, action, and service to others. Click here to see what we mean by these values.

Looks like a few people might actually show up. I'll update the venue tomorrow (Friday). Will be in Palo Alto, probably a cafe or so. Thanks everyone for making time for this on such short notice!
Ok, let's meet at Caffe del Doge. I'm trying to make reservations also (table for 8) just in case.
Hi Tim - I won't be able to make it Saturday - a shame since the gathering spot is a 10 minute walk from home! - but appreciate you putting it together and look forward to participating in a future get together.
@stir
Not a problem. I'm sure we'll do this again sometime soon (and with more of a heads-up).

there is a chance I am out of town this weekend, in which case I would like to join remotely perhaps...
