Nazareth College will host a lecture, “Inside the Insider: Ethics and Tobacco” featuring speaker Jeffrey S. Wigand, The lecture will be held in the Shults Center Forum on Monday, February 21 at 10 a.m. and will be followed by a question-and-answer session. This event is free and open to the public. Jeffrey Wigand M.A., Ph.D., MAT, SC.D. achieved national prominence when he became the tobacco industry’s highest ranking former executive to address public health and smoking issues. He was portrayed by Russell Crowe in the 1999 film The Insider. Wigand has received numerous awards and public recognition for his action in revealing tobacco company research and marketing practices and he continues his efforts to reduce teen tobacco use through the non-profit organization he formed, SMOKE-FREE KIDS, Inc.
Wigand earned academic degrees with distinction from the University of Buffalo’s School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Louisville.
