Nazareth College will host the Summer Academy of Vocal Arts & Musical Theatre from July 18 – 29, 2011, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. This academy is a professional training program in musical theatre and vocal performance that is open to students aged 13-18 years old. Cost is $600, or $550 if registered by June 15. The program will take place at the Callahan Theater in the Nazareth College Arts Center, 4245 East Ave, Rochester, NY 14618. This program is a joint venture between the Empire State Lyric Theatre and the Nazareth College Department of Music. It includes classes, group lessons, solo and ensemble work that focuses on song and character analysis, vocal technique, dance technique, and more. At the end of the two-week program, there will be a final showcase and reception held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Callahan Theater.
Faculty of the program include co-director and master teacher Mario Martinez, co-director Susan Cotroneo, theater instructor and stage director Matthew Ames, pianists and vocal coaches Linda Boianova and Kevin Nitsch, and choreographer and dance instructor Donna Damelio Brett.
To register, applicants must be between 13 and 18 years old, and provide a reference letter from his/her school vocal director and/or voice teacher. Applications can be found at www.naz.edu/music/summer-programs. Applications must be postmarked by June 15, 2011.
