Donations from non-volunteers are gratefully accepted. Please make checks payable to NAWBO Chicago – Day of Service and mail to: NAWBO Chicago – Day of Service, 230 E. Ohio, Suite 400, Chicago, IL 60611-3265.
"This Day of Service means a great deal not only to Hearst School, but also to our organization," says NAWBO Chicago President, Valerie Beck. “Our vision is to propel women entrepreneurs into economic, social, and political spheres of power. By helping to create a bright and pleasing environment in which the students at Hearst can study, learn and excel, we’re also helping to fulfill the social or charitable side of our mission.”
Research shows that professional involvement within local communities is a great way to generate new business development opportunities while becoming socially responsible in the community. As a result, NAWBO Chicago recently created a Charitable and Social Outreach Committee to open up new opportunities for its members to do both. Jane Addams Hull House Association is one of the first not-for-profit organizations with which NAWBO Chicago has formed a partnership. JAHHA, itself, has community school partnerships with five Chicago Public Schools of which Phoebe Hearst School is one.
NAWBO Chicago provides women business owners with leadership, education, procurement and networking opportunities. It also serves as a voice for its members on economic, social and public policy issues. The Chicago Area Chapter is the largest of NAWBO's 70+ chapters in the U.S. The Chapter's members represent businesses in all major industrial, service and retail sectors. Information about women-owned businesses is available at (312) 224-2605 and www.nawbochicago.org.
