The Chicago Area Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) has announced that Sittercity founder Genevieve Thiers will act as the keynote speaker for the Annual Celebration of Achievement Luncheon Gala which serves to pay tribute to members’ accomplishments during the year. The NAWBO event will take place on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at the Intercontinental Chicago, 505 N. Michigan Avenue, with a VIP reception at 11:00 a.m. at Adele Dallas Orr boutique, 520 N. Michigan Avenue.
Genevieve Thiers is the founder of Sittercity, an award-winning, online care-giving site for child care, pet care, senior care, home care, and tutors. The former opera singer gained ample experience babysitting for more than 30 families as an undergraduate, and today, almost a half a million users visit Sittercity.com. Thiers has appeared on The Today Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The View, Good Morning America, the CBS Early Show, CNN, and Martha Stewart Living Radio, and has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Redbook, Parents, Better Homes and Gardens, and others. In 2007, she was listed in Forbes’ Junior Power League and in Crain's “40 under 40”. Genevieve has now launched a new business, Contact Karma, which is the free and easy way for consumers to find vendors that their friends have used and loved.
The Chicago Area Chapter of NAWBO has developed educational and growth programs to promote its members’ success both personally and professionally, and the organization’s ongoing network of support continuously helps its members to flourish in a weak economy. Sustainability for individuals and businesses in the country’s current financial state is not easy to achieve, and NAWBO’s support programs help to facilitate this. This year’s luncheon will recognize business women in categories including: Woman Business Owner of the Year, Member of the Year and Corporate Women of Achievement Awards. Winners in every category will be selected based upon their success in demonstrating a strong work ethic and passion to thrive regardless of the circumstances.
“The Achievement Luncheon is a magnificent event that many look forward to all year,” said Valerie Beck, President of National Association of Women Business Owners – Chicago Area Chapter. “NAWBO propels women entrepreneurs to economic, social, and political spheres of power, and the Achievement Luncheon is where we celebrate and continue to foster that success.”
The Annual Celebration of Achievement Gala is NAWBO’s largest fundraiser of the year. Featuring raffle prizes, a Chocolate Hour post-luncheon reception and networking opportunities, the Achievement Luncheon is an attractive event that draws great interest.
