Since 2003, NATO has remained an essential component of the international community’s efforts to work with Afghan officials in building a stable, prosperous, and democratic Afghanistan. Nevertheless, efforts to secure and rebuild Afghanistan continue to be hampered by a growing insurgency within the country. Successfully securing and rebuilding Afghanistan remains imperative for maintaining NATO’s relevance. Failure to stabilize the country would not only undermine the credibility of the NATO alliance, but would also threaten international security by allowing Afghanistan to once again emerge as a safe haven for terrorist organizations and the narcotics trade.

On June 23rd, the Canada Institute will host a timely discussion on the progress and remaining challenges facing NATO as it attempts to work toward building an Afghanistan free of conflict, destruction, and poverty.
