Of Navajo-Ute heritage, R. Carlos Nakai is considered the master of the Native American flute, with nine Grammy nominations and two gold records to his credit. Nakai’s career has been shaped by a desire to communicate Native American culture and society in a way that transcends common stereotypes.

In his June 23rd appearance for Earth Rhythms, his first in Dallas for over a decade, Nakai will showcase his improvisational world-beat side with William Eaton, a guitarist and luthier respected for his exotic designs such as the spiral clef guitar, and Will Clipman, six-time Grammy-nominated percussionist for his work on many Canyon Record recordings.

The ancient melodies of Nakai's Native American flutes are enveloped in the rich harmonies and chordal timbres of Eaton's uniquely handcrafted multi-stringed instruments. Moving the music forward is a fluid pulse and subtle textures arising out of Clipman's pan-global percussion and poetic touch.

“Together they sculpt an impressionistic world chamber music, bathing in reverberating atmospheres, like a Georgia O’Keefe painting, this fragile and introspective flower in the desert,” proclaimed a Critic’s Choice review in Billboard.
