What: Amtrak will celebrate America’s love for rail travel at the second annual National Train Day event in Philadelphia. An experience for the whole family, National Train Day allows Americans to Discover the Rail Way while enjoying live musical entertainment by Jon McLaughlin and Rachael Yamagata, as well as numerous educational and interactive displays about the past, present and future of train travel.
Train enthusiasts will enjoy an interactive Eco Exhibit, displays of model railroads as well as real Amtrak and historic train cars, paintings from notable train artist, J. Craig Thorpe, and more. The Amtrakids Depot will feature educational hands-on activities, appearances by Radio Disney AM 640’s Road Crew, magicians and face painters. There will also be Amtrak employees such as train engineers and conductors on hand to answer questions.
Exclusively in Philadelphia, honor the service of African American pioneers and learn how they helped reshape passenger rail service and the labor movement. Hear the stories of one of these legendary men as he shares his experiences as an actual Pullman Porter worker. Marvel at the history in the A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum exhibit, and learn the historical significance through the words of Ms. Lyn Hughes, author and curator of the A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum.
