Enjoy the classic silent movie The Poor Little Rich Girl, starring the famous Canadian actress Mary Pickford, with an original score performed live by the National Philharmonic. Philip Carli’s new musical score will accompany the 1917 silent film, made at the height of Mary Pickford’s (somewhat ironic) fame as “America’s sweetheart.” This special free presentation, designed for families and film and music lovers of all ages, celebrates the 100th anniversary of Pickford’s first appearance as an actress on screen in May of 1909.

Mary Pickford (April 8, 1892 – May 29, 1979) was an Academy Award-winning Canadian motion picture star, as well as a co-founder of the film studio United Artists and one of the original 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She was one of the first Canadian pioneers in early Hollywood and one of film's greatest pioneers. In consideration of her contributions to American cinema, the American Film Institute named Pickford 24th among the greatest female stars of all time.

The Poor Little Rich Girl is a 1917 film which tells the story of a rich girl whose parents ignore her and whose servants push her around, until tragedy brings them to realize the error of their ways. The film has been deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
