My name is Joseph Porcelli and on December 31st at Midnight I started The Nametag Project, a social experiment in which I committed to wear a nametag everyday, everywhere I went, all the time, for the entire year of 2007. In addition, I am encouraging others to join me and wear their own nametags. The mission is to have everyone in the world think of, and treat everyone else as a neighbor.
On Sunday, July 15, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m , the Boston Police Department (my employer) other "Nametaggers", and I will be handing out 40,000 nametags to game-goers and anyone around Fenway Park . This will be the largest, most fun, and coolest, community building initiative our city has ever undertaken and we need your help to pull it off. To register to volunteer please fill out this form.
Here are five reasons why you should get involved:
1. We are going to make history
2. We are going to be on national TV
3. You will be apart of an international movement to get to people to talk to and care about each other.
4. There will be a kick-ass party at Game On at 82 Lansdowne, starting at 2:30 PM . If you help nametag you're invited!
5. You'll meet some of the coolest and positive minded people in Boston .
Here's some background on The Nametag Project:
My initial idea was to see what would happen if I I wore a nametag for a year (back then it was called The Nametag for a year Social Experiment.) It turned out that people loved the idea and started joining me. I realized we were on to something big and renamed it "The Nametag Project". The project has been featured in the Boston Globe, Miami Herald on CBS, and recently on the Hallmark Channel's cable show New Mornings (scroll to the bottom to see the segment).
Now, half way through the year, the project has taken on a whole new life. I am proud and humbled that my employer, the Boston Police Department and City of Boston along with the Boston Red Sox have joined forces with me to bring the world the "National Night Out Nametag Day event at Fenway Park" on Sunday, July 15th when the Boston Red Sox play, and will beat, the Toronto Blue Jays. Again, to pull this off we need 106 of you to help by volunteering to pass out nametags from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM on Sunday, July 15 on corners surounding Fenway Park. After we're done handing out nametags we will go to Game On ( 82 Lansdowne Street ) for a volunteer party and watch the game. To register please fill out this form.
If you do choose to volunteer, you will be contacted by Allison Rogers, the event manager, who will confirm your registration and send you more information about the event, where to show up, what to wear, etc. If you do not want to or cannot volunteer please forward this email to everyone you know, post it to your blogs, website and share the love.
