Night is a magical time for photographers looking for a fresh outlet for their imaginations. Blacks are indeed black. And colours seem to be more intense than in daylight, while at the same time taking on a mysterious, enigmatic quality. Theres also the element of movement which takes a different form at night: for example people moving through a frame will disappear if its a time exposure. And the light tracks made by vehicles, planes, stars etc. remain visible while the objects which created them disappear. This course is also about emotion: how to create pictures that speak to people and make them feel something. The first week of the course involves a discussion of some of the greats in the night photography genre and a few basic techniques. It continues with a discussion on techniques used to create emotion in night pictures. After this, participants do night shoots on the streets where they live (MY NGHT) over a three week period. Participants receive online input from tutor on their images between shoots. Class concludes with the production of a book containing at last five of the best images by each participant. Please note this is not a beginners class, so you will need to know how to use your camera. You must also possess a tripod, a light meter and a cable release.
