Join us on November 18 and December 9 at 9:30 AM as the Museum of Making Music presents Musical Story Time. The program held in the Museum galleries is a unique storytelling experience for children ages 4 through 8 and their families. Conducted by a professional facilitator and teacher, Musical Story Time encourages the fusion of reading and music making. This program is generously sponsored by Jack and Susan Fancher, Kay McDaniel and the Sundt Foundation.
Facilitator Anne Fennell conducts these interactive storytelling sessions that inspire reading and expose the audience to elements of music, musical instruments and music making. Each Musical Story Time is held in an appropriate Museum gallery, in the midst of musical instrument displays, and contextualizes stories with recordings, interactive instruments and other story-enhancing elements. Connecting music to written word enhances meaning, says Fennell, and it asks everyone to participate in a creative way!
The list of presented books include: The Remarkable Farkle McBride by John Lithgow, Henry the Steinway: And the Piano Recital and Henry the Steinway: A Star is Born, by Sally Cloveleskie & Peter Goodrich, M is for Melody: Musical Alphabet by Kathy-Jo Wargin, Animal Orchestra by Scott Gustafson, and The Usborne Story of Music by Eileen OBrien.
Anne Fennell is an Orff-Schulwerk specialist in Vista, grades K-8 and is the composer of over 28 original musical productions. Her percussion ensemble, ZOOM!, performed at the National AOSA Conference as well as the 2004 and 2005 NAMM Winter Show. She is also a national workshop coordinator for teachers and administrators in integrated arts programs. Most currently, Fennell is Vista Unified School Districts Teacher of the Year and is pursuing a Masters degree in Educational Leadership Studies.
Join us for this special morning of creative music making with literature and the imaginative minds of young people. These sessions are free, though a $5 suggested donation is appreciated. For more information call 760-438-5996.
