Celebrate Halloween weekend with the hauntingly beautiful music and dance of Mexican folk and Spanish classic traditions; with a special performance honoring El Dia de Los Muertos, celebrating death, love, and life! This concert of Latin music is at turns sweepingly romantic, playful, and magical; enhanced by the colorful dances of flamenco and Mexican folk traditions. Music from Mexico includes the classic Danzon no. 2 by Arturo Marquez and Sensemayá by Silvestre Revueltas, as well as dance music of Jalisco, Yucatán and Tabasco. Classic Spanish music includes Andalucia by Ernesto Lecuona and the pasodoble España Cañi by Pascual Marquina. The wind ensemble will also perform the impish Danza de los Duendes by Nancy Galbraith and Symphonic Dance no. 3 “Fiesta” by Clifton Williams. The evening features a truly spectacular and unique collaboration between the two ensembles, inspired by the interconnectedness of death and life celebrated in the customs of El Dia de Los Muertos. This beautiful and friendly portrayal of a culturally important tradition is perfect for families!
