Augustana Arts presents the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra presents “The Spirit In Music” directed by David Rutherford. Performances are Saturday, October 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2100 Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, and again on Sunday, October 10 at 3 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Essence - Spirit - Soul. This music is dedicated to seeking out and magnifying the nature and substance of a person, a place, a time, an experience, and faith. Music is unique in its immediate expression of those elements and qualities in our lives that defy language.
The program includes Michael Torke’s Monday, Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 22 (The Philosopher), Gabriel Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande and JS Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3.
The Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra well known for its performances of baroque and classical masterworks and for its exploration of lesser-known historic and contemporary repertoire. The musicians of the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra bring a variety of training and experience to the ensemble and a wide array of performing experience.
David Rutherford is Music Director for Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra and the Pikes Peak Philharmonic in Colorado Springs. He founded the Snake River Chamber Orchestra in Idaho as well as an experimental orchestra in Denver called UnStaged. David is also an award winning broadcaster, heard weekday mornings (and also on Sunday morning for Sacred Classics) on KVOD, Colorado Public Radio's Classical Music Service at 88.1FM in the Denver Metro area.
