The Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra, Catherine Sailer, conductor, along with the Colorado Women's Chorale, will perform Vivaldi’s Gloria, Poulenc’s Litanies a la Vierge Noire, Ancient Airs and Dances, Suite No. 1 by Ottorino Respighi and The Indian Spirit at Mesa Falls with composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate on piano. Performances are Saturday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2100 Wadsworth Blvd. and again on Sunday, March 1 at 3 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Ave.

Jerod “Impichchaachaaha” Tate was born in 1968 in Norman, Oklahoma and is a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation. Mr. Tate’s middle name, Impichchaachaaha’, means “high corncrib” and is his inherited traditional Chickasaw house name. A corncrib is a small hut used for the storage of corn and other vegetables.

The Indian Spirit at Mesa Falls scene from the ballet entitled Winter Moons, Jerod’s first composition, was commissioned by Dr. Patricia Tate and premiered at the University of Wyoming in 1992. Colorado Ballet subsequently performed it in 1994 and 1996.
Mr. Tate is Artistic Director for the Chickasaw Chamber Music Festival. He is Composer-in-Residence for the Chickasaw Summer Arts Academy and was Composer-in-Residence for the Grand Canyon Music Festival’s Native American Composer Apprentice Project in 2004 and 2005. In 2007, he was Composer-in-Residence for The Joyce Foundation/American Composers Forum, teaching composition to American Indian high school students in Minneapolis. Mr. Tate received the 2006 Alumni Achievement Award from the Cleveland Institute of Music and has also received awards from Meet the Composer and the Percussive Arts Society. In 2008, he was appointed Cultural Ambassador for the State of Oklahoma. He is happily married to Ursula Running Bear, an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe (Sicangu Lakota) and resides in Longmont, Colorado.
Litanies A La Vierge Noir was written after Poulenc visited the sacred shrine of the Black Madonna of Rocamadour. He made a pilgrimage to her remote chapel in the south of France after a good friend of his was killed in a car accident. His journey changed his life and his work as a composer.

Ancient Airs and Dances, Suite 1
Ottorino Respighi was both a composer and a scholar of early Italian music. These four pieces for chamber orchestra, written in 1917, are based on Renaissance lute pieces written by Simone Molinaro, Vincenzo Galilei (father of Galileo Galilei), and additional anonymous composers.

The Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra well known for its performances of baroque and classical masterworks and for its exploration of lesser-known historic and contemporary repertoire. The musicians of the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra bring a variety of training and experience to the ensemble and a wide array of performing experience.

Catherine Sailer received her B.M. and M.M. Degrees in piano performance and choral conducting from the University of Denver. She received her Doctor of Music in conducting from Northwestern University where she studied with Robert A. Harris and Mallory Thompson and was awarded the Kenneth G. and Helen C. Merrill scholarship. In 2005, she was named the winner of Chorus America’s prestigious Robert Shaw Conducting Fellowship. Dr. Sailer is conductor of the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra, Director of Choral Studies at the University of Denver and is the current associate conductor of the Colorado Ballet.

Charlotte Adams holds a BA from Colorado College and an MM from Indiana University. She is the founder and Principal Conductor of the Colorado Women's Chorale. Ms. Adams was Conductor for 2007 World Voices Australia International Choral Festival, Sydney Opera House and will be Conductor for Choral Salute to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Over the last 30 years, she has served as a pillar of the choral music community, specifically women's choral music, in Colorado. The Colorado Women's Chorale is now in its fifth season with Augustana Arts.
